I'm known throughout the web as AstralWolf. In places where the username is already taken, I go by the AstralWolfer persona instead. I'm still in high school, and got interested in technology back when I was 13 years old after sitting for my important UPSR examinations. To be frank, I'm not exactly sure what or how sparked my interest in technology; and when I say technology, I mean software and hardware. Around '08 I played a few Flash games that made me a loyal follower of the series. It's called MARDEK, you can play it here and the developer's site here. He often blogged about Game-Deving and that sort of thing, which slowly but surely sparked my interest in the field.
I finally decided that I wanted to learn a programming language so that I too could be (or at least attempt) to be a Game-Dev. I scoured the web and found useful resources like this I started learning JavaScript from Codecademy which I never completed nor do I remember any of the syntax. I learned Batch from YouTube videos, which prompted me to start my very own Batch Tutorial playlist on YouTube.
Along the course of this, I had several issues with the laptop that I was using for learning. I'll summarize here succinctly with a promise of expanding on said topic on a another blog post. Basically, it was:
- Positioned badly making it hard to use.
- Slow performance-wise. I could not game or edit videos. It used a Pentium 977.
- Privacy issues. I could not use the laptop for longer periods of time without being reprimanded.
These combined issues threw me over the edge. I started researching and eventually got into the PC building scene, and built my first PC with the help of friends and YouTube. That experience taught me a lot and piqued my interest in hardware as well. With Batch under my belt, I got my feet wet with Python by completing the Codecademy Python course as well as my ongoing practice sessions using Learn Python the Hard Way(LPTHW) by Zed A. Shaw. I am currently also about 32 percent done with Codecademy HTML & CSS course. Despite only completing one-third of the course, I have learned enough to create this blog and everything in it purely by HTML5. Here I am writing this blog post for the purpose of further refining my skills...
Some projects I wish to complete some day are:
- Make a full-blown website.
- Make a game with Pygame or Pyglet
- Learn C# and make a game using Unity
More ways to stalk me
- YouTube I upload gaming and tech oriented videos on YouTube from time to time.
- Google+ Me and Google+ have a love-hate relationship. I never use it to post, except to share things from whatever site I use. To be honest, the only reason I have an account is because of the extensive integration with YouTub.e
- Codecademy This site is a god-send.
- Twitter Twitter, I do view it every now and then; but rarely, if ever post anything there myself.
